Thanks for stopping by!

SBS Comms (formerly “Strange Brew Strategies”) embraces a modern ethos for technology communications, shedding outdated strategies for progress and tangible results. We work with tech giants like American Express, Cloudflare, Flexport, Github and the startups behind today’s and tomorrow’s most consequential breakthroughs such AIR COMPANY, Runway, AstroForge, Pixxel, Vercel, Bessemer Ventures Partners, Lightmatter and more. Rooted in earned media relations, the SBS approach is purposeful. We staunchly believe in the enduring power of earned media in a rapidly evolving tech landscape. We’re proud of our ability to drive meaningful coverage for our clients, and we like to let these results speak for themselves. In 2023, PR Week recognized us as a top industry newcomer.

Our Culture & Values

While our ability to land stories is unmatched, it’s our team (affectionately dubbed the “Brew Crew”) that makes us great. We’re a group of collaborative, creative and curious people who bring warmth and a sense of humor to everything we do. Joining our crew is a chance to work alongside some of the sharpest minds - and funniest “flacks” - in PR.

We hold ourselves to standards that define our culture, with both clients and one another. We are:

  • Creative: Forging the uncharted paths to success means getting messy, taking risks, bending the rules, and challenging convention. Strategic thinking starts with creative minds.
  • Accountable: Hold ourselves and others accountable while never compromising our values or credibility. We always think about how we can do it better and differently.
  • Compassionate: The foundation of every connection is trust, humbleness, and humanness. It is us versus our competitors, not us versus us.
  • Resolute: Fearlessly pursue the opportunities that will challenge us to evolve. Courage embodies what makes SBS different more than anything else.

We’re a fully-remote team, but our culture shines through in our weekly All Hands meetings, various Slack channels, and virtual and in-person events. We make the most out of our in-person time together - traveling to fun destinations for our annual company offsite, gathering for a festive drink to celebrate the holidays, and coming together to co-work when teammates are in town. Twice a year, we host NIGHT MOVES - old school media parties in San Francisco and NYC where we bring together clients, media, friends of SBS and more for fun drinks, delicious food, and great vibes. Every member of our team is given the opportunity to participate in these important events - from planning to execution to attendance.

We’re proud of the Brew Crew and take every opportunity to show our gratitude - from amplifying team members’ voices on our blog, to providing generous annual bonuses, to gifting an additional $4,200 a year towards perks like food deliveries, travel accommodations and more (via our popular Fringe Benefits program).

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging at SBS

At SBS Comms we’re determined to push the boundaries of what it means to be a public relations agency. We believe that a diverse, equitable, and inclusive company is a more creative and successful one. As we drive forward high impact storytelling, we do so with the intention to amplify the diverse voices amongst SBS and our clients - this reflects the clientele we serve and leads by example in creating a more just and equitable society.

Here are a few ways that we promote DEI&B at SBS:

  • Inclusion Crew: The Inclusion Crew is a group of employees across job titles that push forward DEIB initiatives at SBS, including employer branding, hiring, training, development, and more.
  • LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group: The SBS LGBTQIA+ ERG is a dedicated space for employees who are members of the queer community—and allies—to come together. Through a Slack channel, regular meetings, activities, and more, the ERG’s goal is to increase awareness, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging at SBS.
  • SBS for Good - Meaningful Donations: Our people define our culture, so we’re proud to support the causes and organizations that are important and personally significant to each and every member of our team. Every month, SBS provides a generous charitable donation to a cause of an employee’s choosing. Here are a few recent organizations we have contributed to:
    • Fund Texas Choice
    • Action for the Climate Emergency
    • Girls Who Code
    • Reporters Without Borders
    • Tahoe Rim Trail
    • Feeding America
  • SBS for Good - Volunteer Work: As a socially conscious organization that cares deeply about our employees and community, we also seek out opportunities for our people to invest in their respective communities and bond over doing good. We regularly participate in holiday toy drives, beach clean ups, mission-driven job fairs and more.
  • Speaker Series: We know that diverse perspectives are necessary for learning and growing. On a quarterly basis, SBS invites guest speakers from across and beyond the communications industry to share learnings and advice with our team in dedicated guest speaker sessions.
